Ferdi holds the position of Managing Director of the Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP). BFAP serves the agro-food, fibre and beverage sectors in Africa to inform better decisions-making by providing unique insights gained through rigorous analyses, supported by credible databases, a combination of integrated models and considerable experience in private and public sector. Ferdi grew up on a crop and livestock farm in the North-West Province of South Africa. He completed a PhD degree in Agricultural Economics at the University of Pretoria in 2006 following a study abroad programme at the University of Missouri, United States. He has 20 years of working experience in private and public sector, specialising in agricultural market, trade, and policy analyses, end-to-end value chain analytics, strategic foresighting and scenario planning. He also holds a position as extra-ordinary professor at the University of Stellenbosch.
